Hino Rei is a 14 year old girl. She discovers that she is Sailormars after being kidnapped by Jadeite when she learned that he was the one who caused the 6 o'clock bus to disappear. She had received her henshin stick from Luna. After being kidnapped by Jadeite, Luna told Rei to use the henshin stick, and she became Sailormars.
She later on learns of her past as one of the guardians of Princess Selenity, and as the Princess of Mars. Rei lives with her grandfather at the Hikawa Jinga. There she is training to become a Shinto priestess. She also attends the T*A Private Girls' School, which is a private Catholic school for girls that does elementary through high school, throughout the series. At this school, she is well respected, but everyone was distant towards her because she was so spiritual that everyone thought that she was creepy.
