The main character in Sailormoon is Tsukino Usagi. In the beginning of the series, she is 14 years old.On her way to school, Usagi had seen some young boys from elementary school tormenting a cat with a bandage on its head. Usagi saves the cat from be hurt. When Usagi got home and entered her room, though, she discovered that the cat had followed her. The cat then began to talk to her, telling her that Usagi was Sailormoon and that her name was Luna, and gave her a brooch. Usagi transformed, and followed Luna's advise as best as possible to help her friend, Osaka Naru . After the fight, Usagi decided to take Luna as her mentor. This began Usagi's adventures as Sailormoon.
Usagi learns new powers and is able to transform into different incarnations of Sailormoon. The three incarnations of Sailormoon are Sailormoon, Super Sailormoon, and Eternal Sailormoon. She also learns about her past as Princess Serenity in the Moon Kingdom, and her future as Neo-Queen Serenity in Crystal Tokyo.
Behind the mask of Sailormoon, Usagi is a normal teenager. She is in 8th grade in the beginning of the series and attends Juuban Junior High. By the end of the series, she is 16, in 10th grade, and attends Juuban High School. She hangs out at the mall with her friends when she has free time. She makes friends with people easily. She lives with her parents and her younger brother, Shingo.
