A thousand years ago, the ruler of the White Moon Kingdom was Queen Serenity, a kind, and wise ruler, soft-spoken but extremely powerful and good-natured. Her pride and joy was her baby girl, Princess Serenity. Queen Serenity was the keeper of the Moon Stick and the ghinzuishou that was surrounded in it, and used its power to protect her kingdom from harm. To guard her daughter, she chose Sailorsenshi from each of the other planets to become Serenity's guardians.
However, Empress Metallia sent her minions, Queen Beryl and the Four Generals, to the White Moon Kingdom. Spurred on by Beryl's jealousy of Serenity's beauty and Prince Endymion's love for her, Beryl destroyed the White Moon Kingdom and killed Serenity, Endymion, and the other Sailorsenshi. Afterwards, grieving over the death of her daughter, Queen Serenity decided to use the power of the ghinzuishou to give her daughter a second chance. Luna and Artemis, have survived the attack, warned her that using its full power would kill Serenity, but Serenity knew that her life was meaningless without her daughter. So, Queen Serenity unleashed the ghinzuishou's energy and sent everyone into the future, to be reincarnated on Earth as normal girls, in hopes that they would never have to again experience the destruction of dark energy. She also used the ghinzuishou's power to send Luna and Artemis to the future to be their guides. She then died from the backlash of the magic she had used.
Her spirit lived on, somehow attached to the ghinzuishou and Sailormoon herself. Queen Serenity protected the Moon from Queen Neherenia, who had wanted to destroy the Moon using the Golden Crystal. Queen Serenity trapped Neherenia in her mirror.
